Every woman focuses on making her breast more attractive and appealing but they should also take care to make them healthy too. So it is not only important to keep your breast attractive and beautiful but also to keep them healthy. A healthy breast is also important for breastfeeding mothers as it directly affects child health. Below are some common breast diseases that every woman should know.

Abscess of Breast

Abscess of breast is recognized by the presence of a very painful, red swelling on the breast which hurts on touch. Sometimes, the color of breast abscess may be yellow or white. The discoloration on the swelling indicates the presence of pus caused due to infection. A women suffering from breast abscess may also have fever with chills.

Breast Tumor

Breast tumor should always be carefully examined, preferably by a surgeon. The size of the mass should be observed and compared with any previous findings. As a rule, if there is only one single nodule or lump in the breast, it is more likely to the malignant, especially if there is no pain. But whether the lump appears to be malignant or benign, it should always be removed or examined by a pathologist. A minor surgical procedure may be necessary.

In large hospitals, a frozen section of the tissue is removed and usually examined while the operation is in progress. If any malignancy is found, the whole breast and all the lymph nodes in the armpit are removed. If the cancer appears to have extended into the neighboring lymph nodes, the patient has to be given extensive radiation therapy in the affected area. However, all of this can be prevented through an early diagnosis, provided a woman is capable of examining her own breasts every month.

Chronic Cystic Mastitis

In chronic cystic mastitis, there is a degeneration of the breast ducts or lobules due to changes in the estrogen level of the blood. This condition is often seen in women over the age of 35. They usually complain of mild tenderness in the breasts just before the menstruation period. The patient has an aching, heavy feeling in the breast, with perhaps an occasional stinging pain. These benign cysts usually feel spongy or rubbery, which is quite different from the hard toughness of most cancers of the breasts. These lesions tend to fade away at menopause and generally do not cause any future trouble.

Lumps in the Breast

In case of lumps in the breast, there is a localized swelling in the breast which is painful to touch. It may occur in any part of the breast and some times several lumps may be present in the breast. Consult a doctor on finding lumps in the breasts.
